ASK OUR COMMUNITY
Real Questions. Lived Experience. Many Perspectives.
Have a question about adoption, donor conception, unexpected DNA discoveries, late discovery adoption, misattributed parentage, family separation, search and reunion, or the experiences that can surround them?
Ask our community.
Selected questions are shared with adults who have relevant lived experience, giving you the opportunity to hear perspectives that can only come from those who have lived it.
WHO CAN ASK?
Curiosity Is Welcome Here
You don't need to share the lived experience you're asking about.
Questions may come from adoptive parents, first families, spouses and partners, friends, donor parents, professionals, therapists, extended family members, or anyone genuinely interested in listening and learning.
You may encounter perspectives that challenge what you've previously heard or believed. That's okay.
This space exists for curiosity, listening, and greater understanding, not for debating someone's lived experience.
WHO ANSWERS?
The Microphone Belongs to Lived Experience
Questions are directed to members of our community with relevant lived experience, including adults with lived experience in:
Adoption • Donor Conception • Late Discovery Adoption (LDA) • Unexpected DNA Discoveries (NPE) • Misattributed Parentage • Family Separation
Community members speak only for themselves.
There is no single adoptee experience.
There is no single donor-conceived experience.
There is no single NPE experience.
Different experiences, feelings, relationships, and perspectives are not contradictions. They're part of the complexity of lived experience.
COMMUNITY EXPECTATIONS
Ask Respectfully. Listen Openly.
Difficult questions are welcome. Different perspectives are welcome. Discomfort is sometimes part of learning.
What isn't welcome is using someone's response as an opportunity to tell them how they should feel, correct their lived experience, demand gratitude, dismiss their perspective, or debate whether what they experienced is valid.
We ask everyone participating to approach these conversations with genuine curiosity and respect.
